New Music Friday: 13th Floor New Album Picks: November 15, 2024
New Music Friday rears its ugly head once more! Today we present for your approval five new releases we think will tickle your fancy including new titles from Gwen Stefani, Dwight Yoakam and Fazerdaze!
The 13th Floor’s Marty Duda picks these five new releases for your consideration:
- Fazerdaze – Soft Power (Buttrfly) New Zealand artist and producer Fazerdaze, aka Amelia Murray, releases her second album, one that is, ‘Steeped in deep meaning and fueled by fierce self-compassion and empowerment’. Amelia shares, “This is what I created during the darkest, loneliest, most tumultuous years of my life – entering womanhood, navigating the world, the music industry, and what I thought was love. In my scariest moments, this album was my anchor for hope, purpose, and light. I am so relieved and content to finally share with you; Soft Power.” Click here to read the 13th Floor album review.
2. Sam Fowles – After Dark (Self) Here’s another Kiwi release…Wellington’s Sam Fowles releases his debut album, After Dark, today. Fowles’ unique sound can be described as psychedelic soul laced with blues and funk. Fowles says of the album “it’s the blues really, today’s blues just dressed up differently. I believe fans of artists like Gary Clark Jr., Jimi Hendrix, Ocean Alley or even the psychedelic vibes of Tame Impala might find something here they really connect with. After Dark is also for people who appreciate honesty in music and want to feel something real.” Watch for a 13th Floor MusicTalk interview with Sam coming very soon.
3. Gwen Stefani – Bouquet (Interscope) It’s the Hollaback Girl’s first new album in seven years. From the looks of things the No Doubt singer has gone a little bit Country and husband Blake Shelton is on board to help out. Details have otherwise been sketchy leading up to the album’s release, which happens today. So give it a spin and all will be revealed!
4. Silkroad Ensemble with Rhiannon Giddens – American Railroad (Nonesuch) All aboard! Something of a companion piece to a podcast…this album is part of Silkroad’s multi-year American Railroad initiative, making the history and stories behind the project accessible to broader audiences. An American Railroad podcast series, hosted by Rhiannon Giddens, will also drop today, with both the album and podcast series coinciding with Silkroad’s upcoming American Railroad U.S. tour this autumn.
5. Dwight Yoakam – Brighter Days (Thirty Tigers) This is Dwight’s first album of new music in nine years. Written and recorded over the last three years, Brighter Days features 12 brand-new songs
written/co-written by Yoakam, as well as three seemingly disparate covers of Keeping On The Sunny Side by the Carter Family, Bound Away by Cake, and Time Between by The Byrds artfully woven into the same body of work in the unmistakable style that could only be Dwight Yoakam. And there’s a collaboration with Post Malone!
