New Song Of The Day: 10:32 ft. Troy Kingi – Seedling
Happy Earth Day! Here’s a new single about saving the earth by London-based band, 10:32, fronted by Aotearoa artist, Bridget Walsh and featuring Troy Kingi.
The song is Seedling, there’s a new video and a tour in the works. All is revealed in the record company blurb:
The new tune, “Seedling” was written in the first days of the 2019 Extinction Rebellion occupation in London, after two of the band members visited the site on London Bridge that had been taken over by peaceful protesters with live music, free food, street art and pot plants.
“It was a pretty powerful moment, to see one of the main thoroughfares of London brought to a complete standstill with people singing, having picnics, skateboarding, marching, chanting and just hanging out in the middle of the city like it was a festival!
People had also brought plants and trees from home so the bridge was basically transformed into this pop-up green space where everyone could just sit, and chill, and be, ” says Bridget, originally from Tāmaki Makaurau, and now based in South London.
“I ended up heading home and writing a whole set of lyrics for Seedling, along with the basic musical idea – but really it’s just the hook that stuck. It kinda speaks for itself – and the idea of it being a ‘seedling’ that can grow and develop with other artist’s ideas and interpretations just seemed to be the right way to go.”
And that’s exactly what this new single with Troy Kingi has done. Troy (Te Arawa, Ngāpuhi, Te Whānau-ā-Apanui) started with the initial foundation of the band’s track “Seedling”, and has added his own verse exploring the ideas and themes around the tune’s kaupapa, calling on people to look at the world around us, examine our choices and make a change to help save our communities and our planet.
The main 10:32 vocal hook reminds us that the time to start making positive changes is right now. “If we wait until tomorrow we’ll be done, we’ll be done for when tomorrow doesn’t come” with Troy’s lyrics echoing this sentiment “living for the now with no foresight, happy to stamp out all available light”
Given the subject matter, Earth Day 2021 (Thursday 22 April) has been chosen as the release date for this special edition of Seedling, with an EP version already available as part of 10:32’s new record “Aequus Animus” which came out in March and is streaming now on all major platforms.
To celebrate the release of the new record, Bridget is home from a year in London lockdown to tour Aotearoa as a 10:32 duo with local drummer Jess Hix. The rest of the band are still in various stages of lockdown across Europe, with Lyle Barton on keys and Digby Lovatt on bass both in London, and Radovan Brtko on drums, in Slovakia.
“Aequus Animus carries listeners on a multifaceted jazz-tinged journey through hazy late night grooves, elevated throughout by Walsh’s transportational vocal talents and wrapping up with the fusion synth pyrotechnics of ‘Hold The Fight’” – Chris Cudby, Under The Radar
Despite Covid-19 complications, Aequus Animus, was recorded and produced throughout 2020 by London-based Melbourne producer, Lewis Moody (30/70, Z*F*E*X*) and also features contributions from kiwi artist Wallace, London artist Verushka, London guitarist, Benedict Wood and Portuguese percussionist Oli Savill (Basement Jaxx).
