New Song Of The Day: Black Velvet Butterfly – Baby Bat (16)

Auckland’s Black Velvet Butterfly brings you Baby Bat (16) today on The 13th Floor.

Here’s what the band has to say about the song:

Baby Bat (16) Is a song about the trials of being a “Baby Bat” and growing up in a household where your newly formed dark and Gothic tendencies are frowned upon.

Baby Bat (16) is a song about becoming a teenager and exploring adulthood. Being stuck between a child and an adult and learning about yourself, exploring your sexuality and the world. Deciding you’re a little darkling who enjoys the gothic image and music to the dismay of religious parents who do not approve. Kind of like when I was 16 and my mum made me take back my brand new Metallica T-Shirt to the store because she thought it was evil.

lyrics

For the first time I’m not a child.
Everything’s new and I’m running wild.
The things that I try make mumma cry.
But I can not hide these feelings inside

Wa oh wa oh wa oh woah is me.

Maybe I’m gay. Maybe I’m bi.
Maybe I’m straight, I can’t decide.
One things for sure, this is my life.
And I’ll take control.
I’m fed up because…

Mum and Dad don’t understand my taste in clothes my taste in bands.
They say this look ain’t really me no I don’t want to be 16.

Nuclear cores explode by the shores.
Now we must live radio active.
My world is destroyed by your selfish greed.
You pillaged the sea now what’s left for me.
