New Song Of The Day: Isla Noon – Summer In August

Better late than never! Things are a bit slow on the new music front so we thought we’d bring this little gem to your attention that was released a couple of weeks ago. Its Summer In August and it is by Auckland’s Isla Noon.

Let’s face it, with a title like Summer In August being released in December, how late can we be? Here’s the much-anticipated blurb with more…

Auckland-based alt-pop artist Isla Noon releases her cinematic debut single ‘Summer in August’. An evocative, film-reel style music video shot by Mareea Vegas accompanies the release.

‘Summer in August’ is a case study in catharsis, centering around a sacred season of personal healing in the European Summer of 2019.  Noon’s intimate, crystalline vocals draw the listener in before hitting with a full immersion wash of vibrant synthesizers and soundscapes that roll over into hypnosis and heal down to the bone.

The track came together in close collaboration with producer Maude Minnie Morris (LEXXA) and was recorded and mixed at Bigpop Studios. ‘Summer in August’ features audio snippets of a conversation in the studio between the two, where Noon first shared her personal inspiration for the song.

Songwriter and vocalist Isla Noon channels an ‘ethereal high’ into her creative output. The music making process is a direct extension of her personality – diligent, intuitive and ambitious. The resulting sound isn’t easily defined by genre but rather centered by gripping melodies and a depth of emotion that cuts to the core.
