You may remember we spoke to this London-based Kiwi last year. Click here to watch the interview.  And now here’s the latest from October:

London based, New Zealand-born artist October and The Eyes has released their chaotic new single ‘Spiral’, out today.

Disorientating in it’s wild blending of electronic drum samples and live instrumentation, the track dives deep into a tumultuous and energetic world of real and man-made sounds, in an exploration of lost friendship.

“‘Spiral’ is about a problematic friendship, where you never quite know where you stand at any given time,” muses October.

“It’s about a constant pendulum between being pulled in and then spat out again, going round and round in circles until you’re left dizzied and jaded by the whole thing. The song is pretty scathing and somewhat of a waving fist. I wanted the song to sound in constant flux, with reverberating percussion and vocals that feel like they could spiral out of control at any moment.”

Originally written and produced alongside October’s best friend Oliver Johnston, the track came to life just before the duo left London for New Zealand, due to the pandemic.

“It was at the time when nobody was really taking Covid that seriously, although we were starting to worry that it might actually be bigger than any of us could ever imagine,” explained October.

It was only after arriving back in London four months later that intense guitars, live drums and the electric saw were added to the single.

“Perhaps a bit of that tension and confusion was instilled in the song subconsciously,” says October. “I think the chaos and stress of moving back and forth between two sides of the globe added to the outcome of the production too.”

October and The Eyes released their debut EP DOGS AND GODS in 2020 by KRO Records (LA). The captivating performer will be taking their raw, energetic live show on the road with Yves Tumor in the UK through early March, including a show at London’s Troxy on March 8.

Keep an ear out for more to come from this spellbinding artist.
