R.I.P. Charlie Watts: Rolling Stones Drummer and Gentleman
Charlie Watts, drummer for The Rolling Stones, has died at the age of 80.
Terrible news to wake up to this morning… yes, Charlie Watts is no longer with us. Charlie joined The Stones in late 1962, replacing Mick Avory, who went on to be a Kink. Charlie’s first gig with Mick and Keith and the boys was January, 1963.
Watts, a notorious jazz lover and dapper dresser held down the beat for The Stones for the next 50+ years. His style was simple, yet propulsive. It’s hard to pick out a highlight…Satisfaction, Get Off My Cloud, Gimmie Shelter, When The Whip Comes Down…the list is endless.
It was just announced recently that Charlie would not be with The Stones on their next tour, due to health issues. Now it looks as though Its All Over Now.

agreed…terrible news to wake up to. My first RS shows were two nights at Western Springs in 1995 on the Voodoo lounge tour. Did you see them earlier on in the US Marty?

Saw them first time in 1975 in Buffalo NY…was so excited and they did not disappoint. Many times since then. Last time in Auckland at Mt Smart

Must admit to feeling emotional when I go up this morning.
Needed some Emotional Rescue.
