R.I.P. Michael Nesmith: A Monkee Dies Age 78
Michael Nesmith of The Monkees has died age 78. In addition to being a Monkee, Nesmith was a respected and accomplished songwriter, bandleader and video pioneer.
Along with Mickey Dolenz, Peter Tork and Davy Jones, Nesmith was one of the original Monkees, aka The Pre-Fab Four. The group was conceived in 1965 by television producers specifically for the TV series which aired from 1966 to 1968.
Mike Nesmith then went on to form the groundbreaking country-rock band, The First National Band, but not before writing Different Drum, a hit for Linda Ronstadt and The Stone Poneys.
Most recently, Nesmith had been touring with fellow Monkee Mickey Dolenz. Their final show took place just last month.
