RENÉE – Been A Minute: 13th Floor New Song Of The Day

Emerging soul-R&B artist RENÉE returns with her latest single, Been A Minute. With its infectious groove and smooth blend of dance-R&B and Afro-inspired production, Been A Minute marks another evolution in RENÉE’s ever-growing artistry.

Here is the blurb with more:

The track captures the vulnerability and quiet tension of revisiting old feelings after time apart, centering on emotional disclosure and reconnection between two people. Through warm, percussive rhythms and rich, soulful vocals, RENÉE explores what it means to open up again and rediscover a connection that was never fully lost.

Produced by longtime collaborator Jacob Callwood, whose refined electronic production adds depth and movement, Been A Minute feels both intimate and expansive, blending groove and emotion in a way that invites listeners to move and feel at the same time.

As the third single from RENÉE’s forthcoming debut EP “DISCLOSURE”, Been A Minute offers a glimpse into the project’s emotional core — a search for clarity, honesty, and personal growth. Sonically, the EP blends dance-R&B, neo-soul, and Afrobeat influences with a sleek, confident tone, capturing the journey of self-discovery, reconnection, and the expression of long-held truths. With one more single to come, RENÉE continues to shape her distinctive sound, building momentum and establishing herself as a bold new voice in the Aotearoa music scene.

About RENÉE:

RENÉE is an emerging artist from Tāmaki Makaurau, crafting a smooth, contemporary blend of neo-soul, dance-R&B and Afro-influenced production. Led by sultry vocals and emotionally honest songwriting, her music balances laid-back grooves with a confident, radio-ready edge, first introduced through her debut single “Slip Away.”

Influenced by artists such as Jorja Smith, Kaytranada, and Olivia Dean, RENÉE explores themes of emotion, connection, and self-discovery with a clear and evolving sonic identity, quickly positioning herself as one to watch in the local scene.

RENÉE began her solo career in late 2024 with producer Jacob Callwood, who has since become her main creative partner. Together, they’ve shaped a sound that blends neo-soul, dance-R&B, and afrobeat with a distinct Kiwi edge, pushing genre boundaries to craft something fresh and authentic. She has also collaborated with producer Mikeyy, whose contributions have brought further depth and texture to her evolving sound. Since then, RENÉE has taken her music to the stage at multiple live shows, including remixed DJ sets that reimagine her tracks, while RENÉE primarily focuses on performing with her band setup. This combination has helped build momentum for what’s next, as her sound continues to evolve both on stage and in the studio.

Live, RENÉE has taken her music to stages across Aotearoa, performing at venues from Meow to San Fran alongside artists such as Foley, Rita Mae, and Imani-J. She also headlined her first hometown show in Auckland at Big Fan, sharing the stage with Flynn Adamson and Lily Stiven, and played her first festival slot at North Auckland’s Matakanarama Festival over New Year 2025.

Building toward her forthcoming debut EP “DISCLOSURE”, RENÉE has gained momentum with recent releases BLIND and WEST COAST, including strong editorial support from 13th Floor, Hatchlings, and NZ On Air’s NewTracks. Her next single, BEEN A MINUTE, arriving February 13th, marks a clear shift in sound — leaning further into dance-R&B and Afro-influenced production. The track introduces a new sonic chapter for RENÉE, reflecting the EP’s central themes of clarity, identity, and emotional growth.
