Robinson – Nirvana: 13th Floor New Song Of The Day
Aotearoa born, international breakthrough artist Robinson is back with her ethereal new single, Nirvana, out now.
Here’s the blurb:
Layered in synths and dreamy backing vocals, supported by a cinematic, heart-beat pulse, ‘Nirvana’ is an all-encompassing track with a soundscape that encapsulates the feeling of falling in love. With Robinson’s songwriting chops on full display, the drop into the single’s chorus parallels the tension and suspense of that “standstill moment that comes when meeting your soulmate; it feels like falling in slow motion.”
“I wanted to depict the beauty of how another person on this planet can bring such an incredible kaleidoscope of emotion that sets your heart on fire, and how you would go to the ends of the earth to protect and care for that love/each other,” explains Robinson.
“I am an absolute mushy romantic at heart and when I was younger, all I could ever write about were love stories I’d read about or movies I would watch. In past years, my writing topics have expanded into so many different places but it felt so nice coming back to that familiar writing place.”
Made with support from NZ On Air, ‘Nirvana’ was co-written in LA with Derek Fuhrmann and produced by Charles Macdonald. The track was then mixed by Erik Madrid and mastered by Chris Gehringer.
“Every track is so different, and takes different amounts of time to complete,” says Robinson. “Sometimes you get in your head, sometimes it all goes seamlessly. ‘Nirvana’ was a song that needed extra love and care to really get different parts hitting in the way we wanted them to. I also got major perfection anxiety about recording the vocals and wanted to keep doing them again and again until I realised the first ones I did were the best!”
‘Nivana’ is the latest single to be released off Robinson’s upcoming project, following the soaring single ‘Things Aren’t Nice In Paradise’, the absolute bop ‘Oblivion’ and the irresistibly catchy ‘Teenage Renegade’. All three singles have racked up hundreds of thousands of streams on Spotify alone, with the latter already reaching over 1.5 million. Most recently, ‘Things Aren’t Nice In Paradise’ hit #1 on the Hot 20 NZ Singles Chart, as well as reaching #9 on the NZ Shazam chart.
Robinson made her first big statement in 2018 with her sparkling pop gem ‘Nothing To Regret’ (certified Platinum in New Zealand and double Platinum in Australia). In 2020, she released her debut four-track EP WATCHING YOU. She was also invited to record her own take on ‘How Can I Resist Her’ by Split Enz for 2021’s TRUE COLOURS, NEW COLOURS tribute album. Earlier this year she opened for OneRepublic, taking in shows across Australia before performing at Auckland’s Spark Arena.
Fall in love alongside Robinson by taking in today’s release; one which gives fans an exciting taste of what’s to come. As she says, “‘Nirvana’ is here to remind people that my mushy side is very much alive and kicking!”
