Loaded is an explosive new track by Tāmaki Makaurau 4-piece Running Stitch, their first new release in seven years.Here is the blurb with more:

This new song dives headfirst into the chaos of heightened emotions, and an over-crowded mind on the brink of collapse. Taut with tension, the song captures the feeling of being wound up tight and ready to go off like a loaded gun.

‘Loaded’ song moves between jangling, melodic guitar lines that glimmer with brightness, and darker, heavier riffs underpinned by synth-affected textures, creating an atmosphere of push and pull: desperation and vulnerability collide.

The lyrics balance moments of clarity with the suffocating weight of inner turmoil. The result is a track that’s both cathartic and volatile – equal parts melodic release, and sonic pressure cooker.

About Running Stitch

Running Stitch began as the solo project of singer-songwriter Aletta Ashdown, whose evocative style has drawn comparisons to some of the most compelling female artists of past eras. Reviewing the debut EP It’s On, Ania Glowacz (NZ Musician) remarked: “A low-key PJ Harvey, or Cat Power reference wouldn’t be too far off.”

Following the 2015 release of It’s On, Aletta expanded Running Stitch into a full band, bringing on drummer Kayne Wilkinson and bassist Gavin Botica. Their first single, ‘Brightside’, earned a spot on Spotify’s Alternative Tracks playlist, setting the stage for the release of their 2018 EP, also titled Brightside.

Their next single, ‘Hunted’ went to No. 2 on the 95bFM Top Ten.

Critical praise followed. Writing in the Sunday Star Times, Mike Alexander noted: “Running Stitch brings an excitement and attitude to the party that’s raw, engaging and classic…The trio reminds me of a cross between Blondie and Garbage. Great songs, tight band.”

Over the years, Running Stitch have continued to evolve, adding new layers to their sound and growing their catalogue of original material. Now, with a new lineup featuring Owen Bradley (drums), Jason George (bass), and Roger Atmore (lead guitar), the band is entering a dynamic new chapter.

Their latest single, ‘Loaded’, releases on 23 August 2025 across all major digital platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, and iTunes.
