Sam Charlesworth – Heaven Knows: 13th Floor New Song Of The Day

Today we bring you Tamaki-born Sam Charlesworth and his new single Heaven Knows. This heart-warming indie folk track mirrors Charlesworth’s existing discography whilst incorporating inspiration from artists like Elliot Smith, Alex G, Bright Eyes, Silver Jews, Sparklehorse and Pavement.

Here is the blurb with more:

Sam Charlesworth is a self-taught musician and producer whose songwriting and bedroom recordings have earned attention across New Zealand. Beginning his musical journey at 15, Sam quickly developed a unique voice, blending elements of indie rock, grunge, and bedroom pop. His single, English Rose, was a finalist in the 2020 Lion Foundation Songwriting Competition and showcased his ability to craft emotive melodies with powerful vocals reminiscent of early Flying Nun bands. Sam’s discography includes six self-produced albums, including Letters from the Heart (2019), The Difference Between (2020), Bummertown (2020) and the introspective album The Duality of the Human Mind (2021). Also notable is his collaborative track Look Mum I’m On TV! (2021) with now Sony-signed artist Sophie Brown (ratbag).

In 2023, he formed the Dunedin-based alternative rock band The Beatniks, who opened the main stage at the Rhythm and Alps 2024 (ODT Article). Their debut Album Archetype features a handful of reinterpreted Charlesworth’s songs (October 28, Runaway, Dance with me, We all feel Pain) as well as many other collaborative compositions.

Known for his DIY ethos, Sam records all of his music from his bedroom, capturing the authenticity and vulnerability that defines his sound. His works continue to resonate with listeners seeking heartfelt, genre-blending music that speaks to the human experience.
