Sivle Talk – This City Has Let Our Children Down: 13th Floor New Song Of The Day
Today we bring to your attention, This City Has Let Our Children Down, the latest from Sivle Talk/Tane Cotton.
Here is the blurb with more:
Sometimes you need the cathartic release of angry music, and Tane Cotton’s political questioning cuts to the core; his vision of a dystopian police state, too close to reality for any of us to be complacent. With propulsive bass and unrelenting guitar skronk, he lays down a sonic marker. Refuse, resist, don’t let the bastards win. – The Beat Mod’n’Rocker

“Last year I wrote Bottom Feeder as a criticism of our government’s scumminess and disdain for the poor. This year, with This City Has Let Our Children Down, I’m continuing the Sivle Talk tradition of one-man-band-cathartic-shouty-post-punk and turning my sights to the incompetence and apathy of Ōtepoti’s local governing body, and their misguided and wasteful attempts at creating third spaces in a city that still can’t shake its decades long traditions of alcoholism and street violence. And of course, there’s some more “up yours, National!” sprinkled in for good measure.

How can you not laugh at a $60,000 seesaw plonked in the middle of a greyscale block of macro walkable cityness? The music video for This City Has Let Our Children Down supplements the song’s grim tone with a streak of sarcastic silliness that mocks the powers that be with extremely mature caricature and time-stopping shenanigans. It was either that or a feature length film of me crying for 90 minutes – pick your poison.”
