Star Chart – Cheese and Pickle Sandwich: 13th Floor New Song Of The Day

Tāmaki Makaurau born singer-songwriter Star Chart has released their latest light-hearted single Cheese and Pickle Sandwich. It’s the second single of their sophomore EP White Girl Whining (due late 2024).

Here is the blurb with more:

Star ChartDescribed as “a female version of Ben Folds when he was at his best”, Chrissie Hart, who performs as Star Chart, excels in telling stories born from the comedic drama of daily life for an average girl.

After finding a shared love of lyrics and unusual song subjects, Hart teamed up with producer Jess Haugh for this project. “We had a ball of time recording together with the help of session musos and ‘New Music Development’ funding,” says Hart, who met Haugh through her Woman About Sound workshops.

When talking about the lyrical content of the song, here’s what Chrissie has to say. “This song was written about a relationship trying to survive the daily tribulations of domestic life. A stark contrast from the single ‘GPS’ from my first EP, which was all about trying to find a man in your thirties”

Star ChartAbout Star Chart:

Auckland-born multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Hart is no stranger to the stage. Chrissie worked as a professional pianist and singer internationally for 5-star hotels and cruise lines. Her first original release was a collaboration with chart-topping electronic duo Yolanda be Cool in 2013. 2019 brought her first independently released EP No Birthday.

As a session musician, Chrissie has most recently toured with Kendall Elise and is a regular pianist for the Covert Theatre.

More about Chrissie:

Chrissie Hart grew up riding to flute lessons on the back of her father’s motorbike, crapping herself at every piano concert and hiding in the back row of the school orchestra behind a French Horn.

It wasn’t until she joined the University of Auckland choir and discovered a love of singing, that she got over her stage-fright and threw herself into pursuing a music career.

An accomplished classical vocalist, her creative passion led her to study jazz at the New Zealand School of Music in Wellington. After graduating, Chrissie was awarded a scholarship to study at the University of California Los Angeles. Living abroad ignited a love for travel, and Hart traversed the globe by sight-reading in showbands on cruise ships and playing background music in hotels in Japan and China.

With years of musical study and professional performance under her belt, Chrissie felt a strong pull to the original material she had been quietly working on since in high school, and began by recording with the chart-topping electronic duo Yolanda be Cool in 2013.

After returning to her hometown of Auckland, Chrissie finally felt ready to put her own band together and form Star Chart, whose debut EP No Birthday was released in 2019. As a session musician, Chrissie has most recently toured with Kendall Elise and is a regular pianist for the Covert Theatre and secondary school choirs.
