This was a show for the ages. It was the last date on Paul McCartney’s One On One tour and the ex-Beatle pulled out all the stops…an incredible set list, an amazing band, lights, video clips, fireworks…the whole shebang.

With classic rock heavyweights Paul McCartney and Cat Stevens in town this week, Angus & Julia Stone’s show at the Civic could have easily gotten lost in the shuffle. But the Australian siblings needn’t have worried as their fans made their presence known, cheering on both old and new songs.
This was a night for full sleeve tattoos and the singlets to show them, a night for short shorts, jorts and active wear, coupled with a lake of Catfish Billy merch, all enveloping a slathering horde of dudebros and their female equivalent.
Auckland’s Spark Arena was packed to the rafters as Yusuf, aka Cat Stevens, played the first of two shows on his Peace Train/A Cat’s Attic tour in the City Of Sails.
After the success of their Mercury-Prize winning debut An Awesome Wave and sophomore effort This Is All Yours, Alt- J’s inoffensive reinterpretation of late aughties Radiohead, Foals and Grizzly Bear has garnered a considerable fan base, who were out in force at last night’s sold out show at the Auckland Town Hall.
After weeks of clear skies and hot weather, the clouds gathered and rain threatened just as Jack Johnson was scheduled to perform at Auckland’s Villa Maria Winery. But tragedy was averted as the clouds parted and a good time was had by all. Some folks having, perhaps, too good of a time.
With an album recorded in Austin, Texas and just about ready for release, Wellington-based singer/songwriter Emily Fairlight presented a few of those songs to a small, but appreciative crowd at Auckland’s Golden Dawn.
It was time for another injection of eighties synth-pop as The Human League finally made their first trip to New Zealand, aided and abetted by Australia’s Pseudo Echo.
