At Whammy Public Bar, on a cold Wednesday/Raapa evening, Swallow The Rat shared a set that featured almost exclusively new material, plus a few surprises, in anticipation of their 21 date September tour of Europe, which includes shows in France, Germany, Hungary, and an appearance at Misty Fields Festival in the Netherlands.
Swallow the Rat kicked off their Aotearoa tour tonight, releasing a new EP – Face Unpopular, and also announcing an 18-date tour of Europe in September. With fellow Tamaki Makaurau post-punker Memory Foam on the bill, an evening of riffs, rhythms and raciousness lay ahead for 13th Floor Reviewer Simon Coffey.

Toe are wha/four Japanese musicians, who formed, or at least started producing mathy post-rock around 2000, releasing since 2002. The line up of Yamazaki Hirokazu (acoustic guitar), Mino Takaaki (electric guitar), Kashikura Takashi (Drums) and Yamane Satoshi (Bass) has stayed unchanged since inception.
The Going Global Artist Showcases on Thursday and Friday featured 24 of New Zealand’s finest up and coming musicians. The 13th Floor’s Marty Duda was there and on Friday night he was accompanied by photographer Chris Zwaagdyk.
