Here we are at the Tuning Fork early on Sunday morning for Anika Moa and her Songs for Bubbas Show. And the expectant audience are laughing, running around, crying and taking over the joint. Mood swings faster than a pre-menopausal blonde with a hang-over.
A tribute band to the era of Hard Bop arising from East Coast America, the New Bop Quintet have a fling and dance with some of the classic songs and artists of the time and lay out a brace of originals which shine in and amongst the stellar company.
Nikita Tu-Bryant, with her back-combed bouffant, looks poised and triumphant as the trio called Kita take the stage. With the opening salvo from the drummer, a Ginger Baker-style rapid-fire assault, they run through most of the tracks from newly-minted debut album Kita.
The Phoenix Foundation & Dianne Swann. The shared birthday weekend has sparked a celebration on the left-side of the Spark Arena. I wonder who’s having more fun, The Queen or The Tuning Folk’s patrons as it’s inaugurated birthday series thrusts into full swing.

The Tuning Fork is celebrating its 8th birthday with a very special series of events this June, including The Beths, Anika Moa, The Phoenix Foundation and Jakob.
It’s another busy weekend of live music in Auckland. Saturday night found Georgia Lines and LAIIKA at The Tuning Fork along with a surprise opening act.
