Urzila Carlson: Overqualified Loser Premieres Globally on Netflix July 14, 2020

Urzila Carlson is set to debut her new Netflix special, Overqualified Loser, on 14 July, 2020.

Multi-award-winning South African-New Zealander, Urzila Carlson, has become one of the biggest names in comedy in Australia and New Zealand. A television favourite in both countries, Urzila was the 2019 Melbourne International Comedy Festival’s highest ticket-seller, and is a much-loved series regular on both the Australian and New Zealand versions of the award-winning comedy panel show Have You Been Paying Attention?

In her new Netflix stand-up special Overqualified Loser, Urzila is taking back the term ‘loser’ and making it okay. Being a loser isn’t that bad – we’re all losers at some point. Urzila thinks of herself as an overqualified loser, because she excels at the things people think you shouldn’t excel at, and embraces her flaws.

Said Carlson: “We’ve all done dumb things and embarrassing things, the art is to recog-nise what’s happening and to own it! ‘Overqualified Loser’ has been one of my great loves. I’ve loved performing this show to live audiences down under, and now through the magic of the interwebs you get to watch it in your home or devices, wherever you like, dressed anyway you like, with no judgement from this loser.”

Overqualified Loser was recorded in front of a live audience at Melbourne’s Athenaeum Theatre, and launches globally on Netflix on July 14, 2020

Urzila made her Netflix debut in the 2019 Comedians Of The World special filmed at Just For Laughs in Montreal. The special also included Joel Creasey, Nazeem Hussain, and Cal Wilson.
