13th Floor New Song Of The Day: Emily Edrosa – Drinking During The Day

Former Street Chant singer Emily Edrosa has a new song and video…Drinking During The Day.

Nothing like waking up and finding a new song by one of your favourite people sitting in the in-box. Emily and Street Chant visited The 13th Floor a few years ago and played some tunes for us. Now she’s living in LA and recording on her own. Here’s the record company blurb:

Emily achieved considerable acclaim as the songwriter and frontwoman for the multiple-award-winning power pop trio Street Chant, with the band’s final release Hauora (Flying Nun Records, 2016) winning New Zealand’s prestigious Taite Music Prize in 2017. Leaving behind a friendly music scene and a fierce reputation, Emily moved to America in 2016 to start over in a country that seemed in its death throes.

Following her 2014 self-titled and self-produced solo EP, Another Wave is Coming is the culmination of several years of meticulous work spanning two sides of the globe. Emily demoed everything down to the drum parts before enlisting several drummers and engineers to record the parts, including local favourites Alex Freer (Tiny Ruins) and Liz Stokes (The Beths). Emily took those tracks back to her home studio in Los Angeles and layered guitars, vocals, bass and keyboards. Mixed by legendary producer John Agnello (Kurt Vile, Sonic YouthWaxahatchee) and finished by Emily in her home studio, the record is a portrait of life as a hyper-aware stranger in dreamlike and hostile territory.

Emily says of the single:

“This is one of the first songs I wrote for my record, and after this I knew the album wasn’t going to be folky like my EP was. The end guitar solo is one of the funnest things I have ever recorded. As far as drinking during the day goes, I wouldn’t recommend it—except on Christmas which is when this song takes place. Unless the drinking is a metaphor, which I hope it is.”
