13th Floor New Song Of The Day: Soaked Oats – Shuggah Doom

A couple of days ago we brought you Ooga Booga, now its time for Shuggah Doom!

Yes, here’s the brand new single and video from Kiwi quartet Soaked Oats. And here’s the record company blurb to tell you more about it:

After 24 months of touring and toiling, four piece kiwi band Soaked Oats release the first single ‘Shuggah Doom’ from their forthcoming EP! The single is accompanied by a music video that sneakily combines both literal and deeper meanings to the easy-going manoeuvres of the track. The song was produced alongside Tom Healy (Tiny Ruins, Jen Cloher, Miss June) at The Lab in central Auckland, and the video was shot by Jake Munro in the south Auckland Bombay Hills featuring the talented Roxie Mohebbi and Findlay Buchanan alongside a huge ensemble of interchangeable cast and crew.

Lyricist and lead vocalist Oscar Mein says, “The song was written as if writing a script, the video and song play with each other and is intended to make us look at how we narrativise our own lives and desire to have lives worth telling a story about. But how that’s kind of meaningless because it’s about the living and everyone trying their best to do that.

Punctuating the release came the rare invitation to play at UK’s well-established music festival The Great Escape in Brighton, May 2019, to which the band accepted with open arms and gratitude.

Sidebar – Anyone know a good booker up that way for some side shows?

Encapsulating the New Zealand summer with ‘Shuggah Doom’s roaming rhythms and twinkling guitars, Soaked Oats deliver an extra six dates to their 13 stop tour around Aotearoa, spreading their slinky sludge pop across our shores with a mixture of festival appearances and headline shows. Nine dates deep into their New Zealand tour, the band are en route to the Land of Plenty (Australia) for a five-date whistle-stop tour.
