13th Floor YouTube Premiere: The Fabulous King All Stars ft. Vicki Anderson – It’s A Man’s World

Here’s another gem from our vaults. Former James Brown singer Vicki Anderson taking JB’s  It’s A Man’s World and making it her own.

In November of 1988 The 13th Floor’s Marty Duda and Veronica McLaughlin gathered as many former King Records alumni, put them in a studio and recorded this album live in one day (Nov 22, 1988).

Many James Brown players including Bobby Byrd, Clyde Stubblefield, Bootsy Collins and Fred Wesley are on hand, plus Hank Ballard, Bill Doggett and Vicki Anderson who closed out the session with this stunning version of It’s A Man’s World, leaving all present reeling with the beauty and emotion generated by her performance.

That’s long-time JB sax man St Clair Pinckney taking the solo. Arranged and conducted by Alfred “Pee Wee” Ellis.
