Concert Review: HINA – Anthology Lounge November 24, 2020

Here’s another local star on the rise and her name is HINA.

Celebrating the release of her debut EP, Muse, this young Auckland-based lady performed to a select audience of family, friends and fans at Anthology Lounge on K-Rd.

The intimate setting suited HINA’s personal songs and slightly-shy stage demeanor perfectly.

So, armed with a handful of newly-released songs, a laptop with backing tracks and a pure, crystalline voice, HINA captivated the crowd for a fleeting 30 minutes.

We here at The 13th Floor knew what to expect as she had performed at our studio a few weeks earlier and it was a joy to see this promising new talent finally on stage in front of a live audience.

HINA performed all five songs from her Muse EP…Scratch being our favourite, while Reverie being the current single.

“Enough of the sad stuff” she announced before a slightly more upbeat Go So Well.

Then, as a treat, we heard two, as yet untitled new songs proving there’s more here than meets the eye.

If there is any criticism to offer it’s that HINA would do well to ditch the laptop and work with an actual band…some vibes and/or a cello would really hit the spot.

I’m sure something like that is in the cards. Meanwhile do yourself a favour and seek out Muse and keep an eye out for further live appearances.
