Daffodils, Marlin’s Dreaming & Soaked Oats are hitting the road this summer!

The good folk at Pals are stoked to present The Beach Ball, a summer tour like no other showcasing some of Aotearoa’s freshest acts! Think sun, think sand, think a whole lot of good vibes to help you max out those two weeks of annual leave you booked way back in May.

The Beach Ball will be careening around five of the North Island’s most iconic venues, kicking things off at Butler’s Reef in Oakura on December 28 and wrapping up at the Yot Club on January 3, with stops in Waihi, Auckland & Leigh along the way.

That means Daffodils, Marlin’s Dreaming, and Soaked Oats will be jumping in a van and rolling along the coast, on a mission to create the pop, punk, indie, sludgy soundtrack of your summer season.

And for one very special show, there’s even more to be excited about… With Daffodils away rocking it at Rhythm and Vines, party-starting DJ Frank Booker will be joining the party to close out the NYE show at Auckland’s Galatos!

Fish out your favourite sun hat, crack into an ice cold can of Pals and get ready to spend some long hot nights partying with some of our country’s finest acts!

About Soaked Oats
Soaked Oats are a young four-piece band that percolated into existence in Dunedin, New Zealand in 2017. Catapulted by their infectious and joyful shows and fast-evolving song-writing chops, the band’s profile and fanbase are on a steep rise.
The indie ‘sludge-pop’ group have become known for endearing live performances, shows that have granted them access to tours throughout the UK and America. 2019 saw the release of their most accomplished work to date, the ‘Sludge Pop’ EP, as well as an appearance at UK festival The Great Escape. The band’s single ‘Coming Up’ was discovered by indie-rock icon Sharon Van Etten who shared to her 90 thousand plus fans and led to sell-out shows across Australasia. This traction continued into 2020 with their biggest festival performances yet; appearing on main stages at both Laneway Festival and New Plymouth’s WOMAD.

Since lockdown the band have been tinkering away at their debut album, which is set for release in the new year.

About Marlin’s Dreaming
Seeking inspiration from a dank eerie flat in Dunedin, steeped in the city’s rich musical history, Marlin’s Dreaming erupted onto the local scene in late 2017 with their debut album, Lizard Tears. The national & international success of the tasty indie-pop EP helped them escape the flat in favour of the road, with consecutive sold out tours across the country. As the years went on, Marlin’s Dreaming’s sound grew with it, their 2018 EP Talk On/Commic retaining the wry humour of Lizard Tears, but donning a darker aesthetic, with 90’s fangs evoking many of the post-punk greats. Last year they took it on the road with the likes of  Kirin J Callinan, The Chills and Ocean Alley, as well as their own sold-out Australian tours.

in 2020, the band released Quotidian in April, amidst the global lockdown, an accidentally prescient album about the claustrophobia of feeling stuck; directionless. Musically, it was a shift into more serious songwriting, and an exploration of the genre that garnered wide-ranging critical praise from mastheads like NME, American Songwriter, Brooklyn Vegan, and Atwood Magazine.

About Daffodils
Rising indie stars Daffodils’ success continues to escalate, quickly. The Auckland four-piece stepped into the spotlight with the release of their 2017 debut single, ‘Two Angels’. 2018 saw the group release a trio of tracks – among them fan favourite, ‘A Leo Underwater’ – and were signed by the UK’s Kartel Music Group. In late October 2019 they delivered their debut EP featuring five tracks including title tracks ‘Boys and ‘Why Don’t You Hold Me?.

Daffodils are Theo Spike Salmon (guitar, vocals), Isaac Keating (drums), Jade Bryham (keyboards, backing vocals) and Louis Graham (bass, backing vocals).
