Dateline – Do It Right: New Song of The Day

Dateline show us how to Do It Right. The new song is released today!

Here’s the blurb with more:

DatelineDateline is the musical project of Katie Everingham (she/her), a musician and songwriter currently based in Heretaunga (Hastings). Her band is made up of the cream of Tāmaki Makaurau’s (Auckland) indie and alternative crop featuring Callum Devlin (he/him, Hans Pucket), Priya Sami (she/her, Bub) and Ruby Walsh (she/her Lips).

Dateline’s music oozes emotion by blending earnest harmonies that hark back to early 00’s indie pop, with the cool burn of UK guitar groups from the 90s. Special note must be made of Everingham’s lyricism, as she encapsulates the mixed feelings and insecurities that arise from getting older.

DatelineToday Dateline share a new song ‘Do It Right‘, a new single from their debut album Dumb For My Age (out on August 27 via Sunreturn). It comes with a music video directed by Sports Team and made in collaboration with multi disciplinary artist Rita Salt.

Do It Right starts as a slow burn, before detonating with precise drum fills, vocal harmonies, and slabs of fuzz.

“I wrote Do It Right after living in a new city for a while” says Everingham. “It was kind of a ‘Who am I? What am I doing here?’ moment that kicked this song off.”

“I wanted the track to be moody and heavy, so it has lots of grungy distortion and open hi hats. It’s fun to play live so when we were recording I wanted to capture the same energy.”

Do It Right is accompanied with a music video made in collaboration between Sports Team, and multidisciplinary artist Eva DeMeo (who creates work as Rita Salt).

“I love Sports Team, everything they come up with is so creative and unique, and I remember seeing Rita Salt’s art and tattoos and being totally captivated by it.” notes Everingham.

“When the suggestion was made to do a Sports Team/Rita Salt collab I was immediately in.I think the video captures the mood of the song perfectly. I think my favourite moment is the bit where the screen fills with bats! That would be a literal nightmare for me, so spooky.”

Do It Right was made with assistance from NZ On Air Music, and is the latest single to be released from Dateline’s upcoming debut Dumb For My Age. Along with Do It Right, the album will feature previous singles, Such A Bitch, Dumb For My Age and If You Want It.
