deepState shares Now That You’re Gone, the third and final single from her new album Dreams (released digitally on September 1 via Sunreturn).
Here’s the blurb from Sunreturn:
deepState is the musical project of Jessica Morgan (she/her), a musician and songwriter based in Tāmaki Makaurau. Her music is a journey of electronic experimentation, investigating the nuances of House, Electronica, Downtempo, Garage and Breakbeat.
Now That You’re Gone is accompanied with a NZ On Air funded music video made by multidisciplinary artist EwSplat.
Now That You’re Gone emits a heady vibe, airy pad sounds and deep bass carry a mixture of found and recorded samples. It’s akin to a memory of dancefloor conversations while driving home in the early hours of the morning.
“Now That You’re Gone was the final song I made for the album and might be my favourite of all the tracks,” says Morgan. “The sound was heavily influenced by a mixture of garage, ambient and downtempo electronica sounds from artists like Burial, Chloe Kae, Aphex Twin and Blockhead.”
“The song sort of mirrors some of the feelings and experiences I had whilst making this album. Sometimes it was hard to be creative or excited about what I was doing as I was going through a lot of life changes whilst making Dreams and dealing with mental health struggles that can drain your motivation for creative projects. But other times I was very excited about making tracks and would spend hours at a time working on these songs with intense focus and enthusiasm.”
“I feel Now That You’re Gone encompasses many of the emotions, struggles and triumphs I experienced whilst making the album and I couldn’t be happier to share it with everyone.”
Now That You’re Gone is accompanied with a NZ On Air funded music video made by EwSplat, a multidisciplinary artist who has worked with Marty Grimes, 121 Festival, Redbull and Paige.
“I had seen some of his work on social media, he has such an impressive variety of animated styles and thought he’d be perfect for the job. I loved a promotional animation he had made for Club 121 which was in a retro futuristic style and I asked him to use this as a reference for the music video. It turned out beautifully and I couldn’t be happier with it – I feel it’s the perfect pairing for the sound and mood of the track and feel privileged to have worked with him. I hope everyone loves the video as much as I do!
Now That You’re Gone is the final singles from Dreams, deepState’s second studio album expected for release in September via Sunreturn.
