Emma Dilemma – Bed All Day: 13th Floor New Song Of The Day

Aotearoa’s self-proclaimed “patron saint of self-sabotage” Emma Dilemma has today released her latest single, the playfully existential and unforgettable track, Bed All Day.
Here’s the blurb with more:

Emma DilemmaKazoo hooks, grungy guitars and hook-laden melodies; ‘Bed All Day’ is a playful tune that marries rock and hip-hop. Sonically it’s a juxtaposition; it’s both cheerful and complicated, light-hearted and existential, creating the perfect soundtrack for modern times and showcasing Emma Dilemma’s undeniable skill for articulating complex and relatable themes in musical form.

“‘Bed All Day’ reflects my playful side; my tendency to take something that’s bringing me down and make fun of it,” says Emma. “When I’m in darker spaces emotionally, I tend to act out with drugs and alcohol which keeps me stuck in bed all day beating myself up, and getting increasingly more anxious about my adult responsibilities that I’m abandoning.”

“This song is me trying to tell myself it’s somehow a good thing that I’m blowing out and trying to make it fun – but ultimately I know I’m doing more harm than good, which is reflected in the middle eight section lyric.”

It was the kazoo that started it all, with Emma saying “I was just playing with a kazoo whilst watching TV on my couch. The hook came about and I immediately whipped out my laptop and quickly laid it down. The main vocal hook came shortly after and next thing I know I’ve spent five hours putting together the complete demo in my living room.”

Much of this initial demo was used on the final recording, with ‘Bed All Day’ having drums and additional production added at The Milk Bar in Melbourne, with producers Alexander Markwell and Harley Webster (Le Sauvage). The track was then mixed by Emma’s long-time collaborator and good friend Samuel K Sproull.

Emma Dilemma has been making an impact in the Aotearoa music scene, unveiling her debut album SPIT in 2022, which debuted to critical acclaim and landed at #3 on the New Zealand Official Album Charts. In a modern world where traditional music-making rules no longer apply, Emma Dilemma stands as a beacon of artistic freedom, defying limits by merging music, art, comedy, social activism, and politics into an inseparable whole.

Emma Dilemma will join the legendary Zed on their upcoming Aotearoa tour, taking out the support slots in her hometown, Christchurch, on Friday December 8 at The Church. She will also play Dunedin at Erriks on Saturday December 9, then the final show being Queenstown’s Yonder on Sunday December 10. Tickets available HERE

Today’s single release sees Emma Dilemma stepping into her second era, with the promise of more music to come for those who refuse to be confined by conventions. “I think I am ultimately quite unpredictable in what will come out next! In the pipeline I have a country track, a nu-metal-meets-electronic track, a weezer-esque hip hop track with a bunch of feature rappers from around the globe, and an uncharacteristically reflective emotional sad girl track. THE GIRL HAS R A N G E!”

Emma Dilemma invites you with ‘Bed All Day’ to see the world through her unique lens and embrace the absurdity of it all. With more releases in the works, this is an artist you are going to want to pay attention to.
