Estère – My Design, On Others’ Lives (Rough Peel)

Some albums perk you up in the morning, some made to help you cry through the bad break ups, others filled with vignettes from someone else’s life… Estère’s much anticipated double album, My Design, On Others’ Lives, is NONE of the above.

Instead, this is an expedition for your ears with Estère as your eclectic tour guide, embellishing a vast array of sounds at her disposal with her trusty synthesiser Korgi and sampler Lola.

Best enjoyed indulgently upon first listen with eyes closed for a full sensory feast, the album brims with a curation that is both earnest and indifferent. You see, as the pied piper of sounds, Estère uses her powers to do as she pleases, and the outcome has us eating out of the palm of her hand, hook, line and sinker.

Said to have released singles from this album in bite size morsels over the last few months to allow each track ‘to breathe’, here you’ll find songs about conflict and war to ponder, entrance songs for jellyfish as if they were professional wrestlers under the sea all the way to heartfelt, ethereal dedications to Estere’s grandmother and namesake.

This is not just an album, it’s a snapshot of life in motion perfectly preserved for generations to come.
