Gomez, Powerstation, 1 November 2019 (Concert Review)

13th Floor photographer Chris Zwaagdyk braved the pit at the Powerstation last night to capture Gomez in action. He files this report along with a great set of photos.

Gomez – Ben Ottewell, Tom Gray, Paul Blackburn, Olly Peacock, and Ian Ball bounced on to the stage slightly late around 8.45 for a night with songs from their debut album Bring It On and 2nd album Liquid Skin.

A packed, sold out Powerstation is a magic place and there was magic tonight and even though the band hadn’t been back to NZ since 2012. (Though we have seen Ben Ottewell solo.) The fans had not forgotten and quickly got into the night singing and dancing to opening songs, Get Miles, Whippin Piccadilly and Make No Sound. The first set rounded out with;

78 Stone Wobble
Tijuana Lady
Here Comes the Breeze
Love is better than a warm trombone
Get myself arrested
Free to run
Bubble Gum Years
Rie’s Wagon

After a short break the band returned for the full Liquid Skin song list;

Hangover
Revolutionary Kind
Bring It On
Blue Moon Rising
Las Vegas Dealer
We Haven’t Turned Around
Fill My Cup
Rhythm & Blues Alibi
Rosalita
California
Devil Will Ride

The encore finished the night with a repeat of Whippin Piccadilly.

The crowd was happy!
