Gram Antler – By Myself: 13th Floor New Song Of The Day

Pōneke based Gram Antler releases a new video for By Myself, the first single from a soon-to-be-released debut album. Produced by Studio Elga and seemingly shot on Handycam, the film is a b-reel assemblage of candid moments, camera setups and broken takes, jerry-rigged into a shape that pulses with the languid rhythm of the track.

Here is the blurb with more:

Gram Antler

Gram Antler is the solo project of Pōneke singer, bass player and guitarist, Jason Johnson (Ebony Lamb, Marlon Willams, French For Rabbits, Eb & Sparrow).

Gram AntlerReformed choirboy and post-alt-country, Johnson presents Gram Antler as an anachronism, a man unstuck in time, so it goes. The songs aspire to be pop, but seem to congeal into a form that can only be described as Slacker Yacht-Rock.

Hooky and melodic, and full of lush texture, the soon-to-be-released record GRAM ANTLER was written and recorded with award-winning Melbourne-based producer Brett Stanton (The Phoenix Foundation, Beastwars, Hollie Smith).

“In 2018, just as Eb & Sparrow was winding up, I was hit by a car on my bicycle. My shoulder was totally smashed, and I really truly thought I might never be able to play guitar again. So I took the insurance money for my bike and went out and bought a synthesiser. And here we are. It turns out I also did manage to recover enough to play again. This album is a celebration of that, and a paean to the art-pop that Brett and I love, from Roxy Music to Richard Hawley.”
