Jupita – Ur So Annoying: New Song Of The Day

Jupita releases Ur So Annoying after breaking her hand and then playing at Whammy.

We caught Jupita opening for Emma Dilemma last weekend at Whammy. Now there’s a new song out. Here’s the blurb:

JupitaAuckland indie-pop sweetheart Jupita returns with her latest single Ur So Annoying. The new track is a taste of what’s to come from her debut EP, due later this year.

A mix of pop, indie, and a little bit of rock, the catchy song reminds you of being in an early 2000’s rom-com. The summery anthem has a solid bass hook, tasty melodic vocals, with spotless production but authentic guitars. The lyrics are blunt and matter-of-fact in true Jupita style, but if you listen carefully you can hear the deeper meaning behind them.

JupitaWith many collaborators, the song was written at the 2020 APRA SongHubs with co-writers Josh Naley (Wells*), Ash Wallace (Foley), Mona Sanei (CHAII) and Camila Roa Nunez (Amilia) and produced by Levi Patel, with additional production by Justyn Pilbrow and Maude Minnie Morris.

“I walked into the writing room at Roundhead Studios and told everyone a story about how a girl kissed me at a party on the weekend, only to find out later she was kinda seeing someone else. The next day I was taking out the recycling and she was going for a run right past my house. She called my name and stopped to talk to me” says Jupita about writing the song. “We all laughed about how crazy the situation was and decided that was what we were going to write about. This is a tune for anyone who knows they can treat someone better than the person they choose to be with.”

The accompanying video was made DIY style with Jupita’s flatmate Morgan Hayley Blackmore. They conceptualised, planned and filmed it in a day after Jupita broke her hand and was in hospital when the original video was supposed to be made.

Jupita is quickly making a name for herself in the New Zealand music scene as an energetic and engaging live act, and with her debut single ‘Anxiety’ garnering over 45k streams on Spotify.

‘Ur So Annoying’ is a well crafted journey in expansive guitars, a catchy chorus and magnetic vocals. Keep an eye out on what’s to come!
