New Song Of The Day: Carb On Carb – Here Comes The Best Bit

Its another Friday bursting with new music. Our new song of the day is Carb On Carb’s Here Comes The Best Bit.

Keep an eye on 13th Floor throughout the day as we’ve got lots of cool content coming. And the first is this brand new track from Carb On Carb. Here’s the record company blurb with details:

Aotearoa’s beloved emo duo Carb on Carb have today released their brand new single ‘Here Comes the Best Bit’.

The upbeat track reflects on 2020 – a year band members Nicole Gaffney (guitar and vocals) and James Stuteley (drums) spent away from the band, after a whirlwind three years of international touring, releasing music and juggling other epic projects within the industry (Girls Rock! Camp Aotearoa and Papaiti Records respectively).

”We have been working on a new album, and this [‘Here Comes the Best Bit] was one of the first songs to be finished,” James says.

”We planned for 2020 to be a year to take a break and take stock, even before the pandemic – luckily for us – and the lyrics came from that train of thought. It’s looking back on what we had done in three quite hectic years of shows and tours, and thinking about the special moments, and thinking about the contexts that really suit us as a band.”

Fans will be able to experience ‘Here Comes the Best Bit’ – plus other yet-to-be-released material – live and in person when Carb on Carb head back out on the road later this month.

Their five-date Aotearoa tour will see them play shows in Auckland, Wellington, Palmerston North, Blenheim and Christchurch throughout June and July – three of which are all ages shows (awesome!).

James says the thought of getting back out and in front of live audiences – doing what they love – “feels really good”.

”We haven’t played in some of these places for years, so it’s going to be interesting to see who is coming to the shows. I feel like there might be quite a few fresh faces.”

He’s also looking forward to seeing the fans who have been there since day dot, and who will have been hanging out for the best part of several years to see the band return to the stage.

”I hope to see a lot of familiar faces too! We used to tour the country two to four times a year – so we got used to seeing these people every few months. That really dropped off by skipping a year and then everything that unfolded around covid-19,” he says.

Nicole and James will be joined by Wellington-based breath-of-fresh-air shannengeorgiapetersen for all five tour dates.

Shannen is best known as one half of “the pride of Palmerston North” fruit juice parade, whose recent single made #1 on the national SRN radio chart. The tour also comes in the wake of her recently-released single, ‘Home Again 4’ – a song that’s taking her solo project to a whole other level and is currently sitting at #2 on the SRN chart.

Tickets to see Carb on Carb and shannengeorgiapetersen live are available now.
