New Song Of The Day: Gramsci – Excuse Me, Mr. Jones

Paul McLaney & Gramsci present this loving tribute to one D. Bowie on the fifth anniversary of his death.

The song is Excuse Me, Mr. Jones and is, apparently, the first in a series of singles from Paul McLaney, Greg Haver and Bruce Lynch. Here’s the record company blurb:

The song is a prayer of sorts, borne of lockdown. In this instance the prayer is to David Bowie; imagined as the lonely figure of Major Tom floating in splendid isolation, looking back down at us all on Earth. Jan 10 marks 5 years since he passed. Prayers ostensibly speak to a higher strength but that capacity to achieve a higher strength, to evolve and improve exists in all of us. For many fans Bowie exemplified this, evolving from suburban David Jones to the Starman, David Bowie.

Gramsci returned after a 15 year hiatus in 2020 with the critically acclaimed album, ‘Inheritance’. On October 16 they presented the album in its entirety at The ASB Waterfront Theatre in Auckland immediately after Lockdown 2.0

‘Excuse Me, Mr. Jones’ is the first of a run of singles.
