Operation Fortune: Ruse De Guerre Dir: Guy Ritchie

Operation Fortune: Ruse De Guerre is the latest from director Guy Ritchie whose Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels set the template for this one.

Starring: Jason Statham, Aubrey Plaza, Hugh Grant, Cary Elwes & Josh Hartnett

Operation FortuneFans of Mission Impossible or even Snatch may feel like they’ve seen this before…’super spy’ Orson Fortune (Statham) is hired to stop an evil arms broker (Grant) from selling some deadly new technology to the bad guys.

What is this new tech? Who knows? And who cares? Already you’re overthinking this entertaining (if lightweight) ‘spy action comedy’ caper.

Jason Statham plays classic Statham…he never fails to punch out the bad guys…you gotta love him.

Aubrey Plaza (who seems to be everywhere these days) plays Sarah Fidel, Fortune’s right-hand gal, who looks glamorous while pecking at a laptop or flirting with a billionaire.

So basically, Fortune fights while Fidel flirts.

To get into the rather muddled plot is pointless.

Why waste your brain power on plot points when there are exotic locations, beautiful people, snappy dialogue, quick-cutting fight scenes and car chases galore…love that red and white Mustang.

While the story may be lacking, the stars and the dialogue more than make up for it. I especially love Hugh Grant at his sleaziest.

So sit back, put your feet up and turn off your brain and let Guy Ritchie and his lovable band of numbskulls entertain you for a couple of hours.

Escapism at its best.
