R.I.P. John “Jabo” Starks
He was James Brown’s other funky drummer. John “Jabo” Starks has died at the age of 79.
Starks, along with Clyde Stubblefield, laid down some of the funkiest grooves ever to be captured on vinyl while playing with James Brown’s band in the late 1960s and early 70s. Jabo and Clyde (who passed away last year) often played together, creating a foundation for Brown’s songs that could not be beat.
