Ruby Coley comes from a diverse background, blending Rotuman, Dutch, and Kiwi heritage. Growing up in Grey Lynn, Auckland, music was always a big part of her life, thanks to her parents’ involvement in the music and movie industry. With her mum being a 90s chart-topping pop/soul singer, it’s no surprise that Ruby developed a deep love for music, especially playing the piano and singing. Inspired by artists like Gracie Abrams, Holly Humberstone, Sampha, Lana Del Ray, and Olivia Dean, Ruby’s musical tastes are wide-ranging.

During her high school years, Ruby discovered her passion for songwriting, creating heartfelt melodies and lyrics in the comfort of her own home. In 2019, she took a big step forward, recording demo tracks at Roundhead Studios. This opened up opportunities for Ruby to collaborate with different producers, refining her sound along the way. Her journey eventually led her to participate in the NZ on Air New Artist development project, where she teamed up with Josh Naley, further shaping her artistic path.
