Theia – Girls!: 13th Floor New Song Of The Day

Theia has revealed a new single, and this one’s a punchy, indie-pop banger called Girls!.

And here’s the blurb with details:

The alt-pop artist reveals today’s new tune while in the US where she’s been performing at LA Pride.

TheiaGirls!’ is a sweet, love song for girls who love girls. With a driving drum beat and grunge-coded indie guitar riffs, the song pays homage to female acts of the 90s but all the while staying true to Theia’s signature falsetto, ethereal vocals and relatable, honest lyricism.

“I’d been listening to a lot of my favourite 90s women when I wrote Girls! – artists like Sinead O’ConnorThe Cranberries and Alanis Morissette, says Theia. “So inspired, that for the first time ever on a Theia track, I did away with all the electronic bells and whistles and went only with live production. Everything you hear – the drums, the guitars – are all being played live in the studio.”

‘Girls!’ follows the already released singles, the exquisite piano ballad Pray 4 Me and the raucous and confrontational Crucified By U. The songs reinforce Theia’s unwavering determination to push boundaries and convey powerful messages in her music.

The enigmatic singer and songwriter has been making waves since she first emerged in 2016 with her break-out hit Roam’. She has gone on to release a string of successful EPs drawing praise from the likes of Billboard MagazineClash and Pigeons & Planes.

Theia has also received critical acclaim for her te reo Māori side project TE KAAHU. The project’s debut album TE KAAHU O RANGI was awarded the 2023 Taite Prize for BestIndependent Debut as well as nominations in the Rolling Stone NZ Awards, the NZ Music Awards (AMAs), the APRA Maioha Award, the Waiata Māori Music Awards, the Student Radio Network AwardsTheia is touring TE KAAHU in Canada in July.

Theia’s ability to seamlessly move between her two music projects, whilst continuing to reach audiences in both and deliver music with depth is testament to her formidable talents. She is a true force and one of New Zealand’s most compelling acts.
