There’s A Tuesday at The Tuning Fork, Thurs 18th March 2021

Christchurch foursome There’s A Tuesday were a breath of fresh air as their tour reached a buzzing Tuning Fork earlier this week. Delayed twice due to Covid restrictions, it was well worth the wait.

LAIIKAIn support, local pop outfit LAIIKA made light work of warming up the room with their retro-tinged cuts of upbeat disco, with the core duo of Heidi Simpson and Grace Moller being backed by a full band. Latest single ‘Any Way You Want It’ is a highlight, a cheeky, Y2K bop that’s great on record but was elevated substantially in its live instrumentation.

There’s A Tuesday’s brand of indie rock is dulcet and spacey, and the vibes they bring to the stage are too, with a set mostly showcasing last year’s ‘Dance With Me Before We Cry’ EP. From it, ‘FOMO’ earns an early sing-along, while the lulling ‘Sound Of the Stars’ exemplifies Nat Hutton and Minnie Robberds’ pristine talent as vocalists. The two give off wholesome vibes throughout, dancing and smiling together, clearly in their absolute element.

There’s A TuesdayDespite not being from ‘round here’, there’s a real homecoming energy in the room; the audience is clearly full of friends and super attentive, silent between songs, dancing profusely during, and even sitting down completely during ‘Nightmare’. Come the end, chants of ‘encore!’ satisfied in seconds when the four-piece return with jaunty single ‘Amsterdam’, wrapping up an impressively tight and all-round enjoyable evening, testament to why this band are being hailed as a real one-to-watch.
