Tina Turner, Rock and Soul Icon, Has Died at age 83 – R.I.P.
Tina Turner, the Godmother of rock and soul, has died at age 83 at her home in Switzerland.
Tina retired back in 2009 after 50 years of inventing and re-inventing rock and soul. She started out as a singer with Ike Turner’s Kings Of Rhythm back in 1957 and never looked back. The Ike & Tina Turner Revue tore up stages in the 1960s and their versions of songs like Proud Mary, Honky Tonk Woman and Come Together rivaled the originals.
Tina and Ike split in 1976 and the future “Queen Of Rock & Roll” was destitute. But she clawed her way back to the top by simply being the best. Her 1984 Private Dancer album topped the charts, won Grammys and sold millions.
