Upcoming Events November 25th-December 1st

Good morning from the 13th Floor. There are some fantastic upcoming music releases, concert performances and movies coming out in cinema and on DVD. Here are this week’s recommendations from the 13th Floor.

New Music 

Brian DegrawKeep your eyes open for SUM/ONE, the debut album from bEEdEEgEE (aka Brian Degraw). Fusing deep synth soundscapes with audacious pop moments, it is well worth listening to if your enjoy the experimental genre.

SOL3 MIO debuted at #1 on the NZ album chart with their self titled album. With their soaring voices and humility, the band looks destined to go far.

Mount Kimbie’s new EP ‘CSFLY Remixes’ is out now. This limited edition 12” features remixes by some of the duo’s
favourite producers including DJ Koze’s lingering eight minute edit of ‘Made to Stray’. It has been met with rave reviews and has been personally recommended by Team Border as the must listen to album.

Barbra StreisandBarbra Streisand returns. Her latest album “Back to Brooklyn” (which comes out Monday November 25th) is a compiled recording of the songs which she sang at Barclay’s Centre in her hometown of Brooklyn. It includes the hits ‘Happy Days are Here Again’ and ‘People.’

New Music Events

PassengerBritish folk and rock singer Passenger will be doing two performances in New Zealand. One on Thursday November 28th in Wellington at the Opera House and at the Powerstation in Auckland on Friday November 29th.

Taylor Swift returns to New Zealand. After sell-out shows last year, the singer will be performing three shows at the Vector Arena (November 29th, 30th and December 1st). New Movies

20 Feet from Stardom20 Feet from Stardom is a movie about the backup singers who accompany the stars on tours and live performances. It comes out on Thursday November 28th.

Vince Vaughn takes the lead in Delivery Man, a film about an underachiever who discovers that he is the biological father to over 500 children. It comes out on November 28th.

50 years on stageThe National Theatre of Great Britain are celebrating five decades on stage with the film 50 Years on Stage, which comes out on Thursday November 28th. It will showcase the finest acting talent which Britain has produced over the last 50 years.

Other films which are coming out this week are Arthur Newman, Enough Said (Thursday November 28th), How I Live Now, Kill Your Darlings (Thursday 28th November) and Mr. Morgans Last Love (Thursday November 28th).

New DVDs

Wednesday, November 27th is new DVD’s day, with a flurry of great films being made available on DVD. They include the French drama Farewell My Queen; the martial arts film Guillotines; The Other Son a touching drama set in the Israel/Palestine backdrop; Hugh Jackman returns as WolverineWhite House Down and To the Wander round off the films.

Jeff Wayne’s War of the Worlds: Alive on Stage also comes out on November 27th.

Other Cool Stuff

As you might have heard, Lionel Richie and John Farnham are coming to New Zealand next year, performing with their own bands and singers. Tickets officially go on sale this Friday (29th).
