Watch: John Davis & The Cicadas at The 13th Floor
Along with Sebadoh’s Lou Barlow, John Davis was one-half of 90’s indie duo The Folk Implosion. Their tune, Natural One was a hit in 1995, appearing on the Kids soundtrack.
After a decade or so away from music, Davis is back and touring New Zealand for the first time. John and his “band”, The Cicadas, which consists of percussionist Rob Chamberlain for this tour, made his first stop in Auckland The 13th Floor’s studio.
He sat down for an interview with Marty Duda, giving an in depth insight into what it was like becoming part of the music industry in the 1990s and his love of New Zealand music. Davis, who is also a school teacher and activist, speaks passionately about teachers’ rights and his experiences trying to make positive changes in Trump’s America.
Oh, and he and Chamberlain performed two songs as well.
