Zed – Tuning Fork: November 24, 2023

The 90s are back in fashion and it’s not just the clothes that are making a comeback. Reunited Kiwi band Zed played last night at The Tuning Fork as part of their Future You Tour and for nostalgic fans looking to revisit those glory days they did not disappoint.

Borderline

Opening for Zed and getting things started around 8pm was fresh-faced band Borderline. BorderlineReminiscent of Arctic Monkeys their sound is mellow rock with a punch of pop. Song This Is Not Love was a particular highlight – catchy and easy to dance to. A funky mash up featuring songs from Blackstreet and Eminem had us Feeling Good. Definitely a band worth keeping on the radar.

ZED

Zed came on stage bang on time at 9pm, diving straight into it with fan favourite hit song Renegade Fighter from their debut album Silencer. The band was in top form, bringing high energy and good vibes. The intimate venue helped the crowd warm up as Zed brought the heat, with a set featuring a mix of old favourites, a bit of something new and some well-known covers.

With Hard to Find Her singer and guitarist Nathan King had us all feeling the love as he shared that he wrote this song about a girl he liked – 21 years later they are still together and she was in the audience.

Brand new song Future You showcased that Zed were not just there to play their old material. Upbeat and with a more mature and groovy sound, Future You is proof that Zed are still talented songwriters with something fresh to contribute. With more new songs and an album in the works, this was an exciting taste of what the future Zed will have to offer.

Coming to the end of the set Zed busted out some fun cover songs that had the audience singing along. Their finale, which everyone had been waiting and hoping for, was Glorafilia – putting the icing on the cake of what was a great night.
