13th Floor New Song Of The Day: Racing – Space Boogie

Today we have new music from Auckland rockers Racing. The song is Space Boogie and it features a guest turn from none other than Peter Urlich.

The Auckland quartet is ready to rock with a tour just announced. here’s the blurb:

Auckland four-piece Racing are firing on all cylinders with the release of new single ‘Space Boogie’ – the indie rock anthem every pub; living room and car stereo needs right now, as we emerge from strange times!

The first single from Racing’s upcoming sophomore album, ‘Space Boogie is a  rhythmic journey through the cosmic entrails of Auckland’s nightlife. From its pinned back pulsations, to its exploding escapade of a chorus, it’s a tune full of good times and catchy hooks. Racing’s Ed Knowles’ vocal tones are complimented by the featured vocal stylings of Peter Urlich from Th’ Dudes

The release of ‘Space Boogie’ coincides with the recent announcement of Racing’s four-date New Zealand tour – get tickets here.

Space Boogie’ opens a new page for Racing, following the release of their critically acclaimed 2018 debut album REAL DANCING, which included the radio hits ‘Run Wild’ (50 weeks in NZ’s official rock chart) and ‘Motel Pool’; as well as 2020’s single ‘Flashbacks’, which peaked at #2 on the rock chart.

Made up of long-time collaborators Ed Knowles (vocals) and Sven Pettersen (guitar) – two crucial parts of the colossus that was The Checks – and two other heavy hitters on the Kiwi alt scene, Daniel Barrett (bass) and Izaak Houston (drums), Racing has gone on to forge its own path on the local indie rock scene.

Once likened to the “thoughts of a crocodile in flood season, the band crafts a swirling sea of groove and hypnosis into rock anthems drenched in tropical dance music”, Racing raises the bar with ‘Space Boogie’ and promises punters an unforgettable night of pure rock ‘n’ roll on their upcoming tour.
